Experiences on the Massage Table

When new clients come to Live Your Light for a Medical Qigong session, they often wonder what to expect while they are lying on the massage table.

It’s a surprisingly difficult question to answer because every session is a uniquely personal experience.

Today I thought it would be fun to share both the common and the knock-your-socks-off experiences that clients have had recently.

What might you feel in a session?

During a Medical Qigong session, we are balancing and flowing energy in and around the body.  We open chakras and meridians.  We release old patterns, triggers, and coping mechanisms.  Energetic stagnation dissolves as harmony is restored within the body's energetic system.

Before a new client lies down on the table, I share some of the experiences they might encounter during a session, so they know what to expect and can simply relax into the experience.

  • Tingling in your hands or feet.

  • Heat or cold in a body part.

  • Twitching or spontaneous movement. A thumb might twitch. An entire leg might kick. These involuntary movements can occur as the body's energy shifts and reorganizes.

  • Gurgling in the digestive system. The digestive organs may begin to process what they have been holding.

  • Changes in the breath. The breathing may become very shallow and quiet, followed by a sudden deep breath or snore.

  • A dreamy, in-between state. Many clients sink into a relaxed state between asleep and awake. I believe the brainwaves enter Theta, in which healing happens.  Thoughts drift in and out, often random and unrelated.

  • Heaviness or lightness. Some clients feel heavy, as though a weighted blanket is pressing them down.  Others feel light as a feather, practically floating off the table.

  • A sensation of being pushed or pulled. Clients occasionally feel as though the body is leaning or being gently pushed toward one side.

  • In 5% of sessions, a difficult emotion surfaces: anxiety, depression, fear, or the onset of a panic attack.  These feelings tend to release within a minute; the session seems to bring emotions up to the surface, where they can be processed and moved out.

  • Visualizations:  Some people experience colors, lights, images, Beings, or even loved ones who have passed.

When I mention these possible experiences to clients before a session, it is simply to help them feel comfortable with whatever comes up.  A client may feel several of these examples, or none of them at all!

Every person has a unique experience, and it is different each time they come in for a session.  There is no right or wrong way to feel.

You don't have to feel or see anything. The session can create a meaningful shift without perceptible sensations.

Recently, clients have been sharing experiences that leave me amazed and in awe of the mysteries of energy.

I thought you might enjoy these stories.

“Did you use a flashlight?”

Multiple clients have described seeing light move across their vision during a session. They are wearing an eye pillow that does not allow light to flow through. The light feels so real to them!  It is my belief that they are seeing Divine light that is healing their bodies.

A human scanner

One client felt as though he was lying on a printer/ scanner.   He experienced a light traveling down his body, layer by layer, from his head to his toes. The light would turn off as it traveled back towards his head. Then the light would come on and scan down his entire body, repeating again and again.

Interestingly, he felt this sensation while I was performing a form that combs through the body to cleanse and release what was no longer serving. He couldn't see me, but his experience and my movements were mirroring each other.

Dark energy released

At the end of a session, a client thanked me profusely.  She had seen a dark Being coming towards her, and felt tremendous fear and dread inside.

In the session, she witnessed me blanketing her body with golden light as a protective covering, while simultaneously leading the dark Being away.

I was not aware of this encounter, and yet she witnessed this energetic exchange with clarity.

Release of past trauma

A client recently experienced a sudden sharp pain during the session. This pain was in her bladder and kidney, an area which had undergone surgery decades earlier. She felt as though something was being pulled out of these organs. When the pain disappeared, she felt a deep and profound healing.

Sorting the Mind

One client experienced the dreamy, drifting thoughts, but the thoughts were flowing at a rapid pace. It was similar to a life-review, flitting through memories and events of her life. She felt as though the filing cabinet of her life was being sorted and reorganized.

Releasing energy through the limbs

An elderly client consistently reports feeling a river of energy flowing out through her fingers and toes. She believes it is old, stagnant energy that is being released so that she doesn't have to carry it forward.

Movement in waves

A teenager recently explained that the entire session felt like movement in waves. When I touched her shoulder at the beginning, she felt waves of energy and light moving down her body. During the healing, she felt waves shifting through various body parts. During the singing bowls at the end of the session, she heard the sounds harmonize as she felt the waves harmonize within her.

As you can see, experiences during a session vary greatly.  The energy shifts can be physical, emotional, spiritual.  They can be felt in the body, seen through the mind, or witnessed outside of themselves.  They are always deeply personal.

Every body is different. Every session is different.

I never know what a client will experience when they lie down on the massage table.

I never know what a client will experience in the days following a session.

There are infinite possibilities and infinite outcomes.

I love bearing witness to the miraculous and unexplainable experiences that come through when we least expect it.

I hope you are as inspired as I am.
