Session Opening Ritual
At the beginning of Clinical Qigong sessions, I touch clients' feet and say a few words to open the session.
It’s similar to a guided meditation, helping you to relax into your body, ground, become present, and receive the transformation that is offered.
Clients frequently comment about these words, and the guidance they provide for the session.
In this article, I share the opening ritual that I use to set intentions for a session, and the purpose behind them.
Feel your body lying on the table. Relax into the table. Melt into the table.
This brings awareness to your physical body. It brings you into the present moment and welcomes you to release tension and holding.
Feel gravity flowing over you and through you. Allow gravity to attach to anything that doesn’t serve you and pull it out of your body, into the earth for composting. Gravity pulls out tension, unprocessed emotions, toxins, and anything else that doesn’t serve you.
The downward pull of gravity is helping you to relax and release tension. We use this visual to give your body permission to start releasing. The energy work has already begun.
Notice the vibration of the Earth beneath you. It reaches up to meet you where you are, always supporting you, holding you, and providing nourishment.
It’s important to feel safe and supported during a session. These words help you to ground into the Earth and feel the stability and balance offered. The Earth provides the building blocks of nourishment for all the changes we are enacting during this session.
Watch your breath. With every inhale, fresh oxygen fuels and nourishes every cell in your body. With every exhale, welcome those cells to release what does not serve you.
Qi translates to ‘Breath’ or ‘Life Force’. We are reminding you to breathe and thus activate the Life Force within you. These words welcome you to open at a cellular level to absorb nourishment and release what isn’t yours throughout the session.
Bring your awareness to your heart center. Here at the center of your energy body, you are welcomed to let go of the past. Let go of the story. The labels. Regrets, resentment, grief, sadness, judgments, even accomplishments. You are not the same person you were 20 years ago. You are not the same person you were yesterday. The past does not define who you are in this moment. Welcome the past to float away.
The past can hold us back. In this session, you are releasing the conditioning and patterns of the past, and welcoming yourself into a new reality, a new perception of yourself in the world.
Here at the heart center, you are welcomed to let go of the future. Worry, nervousness, anxiety, uncertainty, the to-do lists. Let go of the expectation of a certain outcome, and all of the trying and efforting to get there. The future is not set in stone. As you release your grip on the future, the infinite possibilities begin to flow in. Welcome the future to float away.
Putting our focus in the future distracts us from the present moment. When we stop trying to control the outcome, it can take us into unexpected directions.
Here at your heart center, you find yourself in the Now moment, completely Present with What Is. Lean inward and backward at your heart, into alignment with your true self, your Divine Light, as it holds you and enfolds you in pure love while you rest.
Your soul's essence exists in the present moment, at the heart. Your heart resonance is unique; no one else has the same vibration of love as you. We welcome healing to come from alignment with your higher self.
Sometimes my words vary. Each session is personalized to fit the client.
- I may include guidance to release distracting thoughts.
- I may reference a visual of an elevator of thoughts, traveling from your brain to your heart, where you can feel your thoughts instead of thinking them.
- I may lead you to create grounding cords attached to each organ, each bone, each cell in the body to release what does not serve you.
I hope you enjoy this inside-look at my energy sessions. Which parts are most meaningful for you? What is your experience of hearing these words? What do you wish I would add to the opening?
In upcoming months, I will write about the silent conversation I have in my head to call in Divine Guidance. I will also share the words that I use to close a session. Hopefully this is helpful for your own experience, understanding, and practice. Be well!
