Optimizing Health with Structured Water

Several years ago, I wrote an article about how I filter my water at home and in my office. Since tap water is my primary source of hydration, filtering out chemicals and sediment from city water felt like an important health choice.  Click to Read

Today, I want to revisit the topic of water.

For more than a decade, the healing practitioners I trust have recommended Structured Water. (The process of structuring water is done in addition to filtration, not as a replacement for it.)

While mainstream science remains skeptical about the impact of Structured Water, alternative and holistic practitioners continue to explore its effects on living beings. This is not settled science, but rather an emerging area of interest that invites personal experimentation and observation.

The premise behind Structured Water is that water in its natural state is more easily absorbed and utilized by the body's cells. Rather than existing as individual H₂O molecules, Structured Water is said to form a community of water molecules, in a hexagonal atomic structure of H3O2.  Structured Water is said to resemble the water found within our cells and is therefore more readily utilized by the body.

Supporters of Structured Water believe that modern water treatment systems alter water's natural structure.  The pressurization, chemical additives like chlorine and fluoride, and long periods of stagnation in pipes disrupt the water's structure. They also suggest that electromagnetic fields, pollution, and heavy metals further degrade water's structure. By the time water reaches our homes through pipes or plastic bottles, it no longer exists in a form that can be optimally utilized by the body.

One of my favorite resources on this topic is an article by Marie McMahon, PhD, Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at San Diego Miramar College. She explains the concept of Structured Water in laymen's terms and includes helpful illustrations and examples. Rather than attempting to summarize her work, I encourage you to read her article for yourself.

For years, hydration has been a huge focus in my life:  Tracking my daily water intake, always thirsty, drinking plenty of water but still feeling dehydrated, waking during the night to use the bathroom and drink more water.

I have been searching for solutions to improve absorption and utilization of water in the body.

Recently I've been working with a gut-health practitioner who performs Live Blood Analysis. During an appointment, she examined a drop of my blood under a microscope.

She found evidence that I was deficient in several B vitamins, struggling to digest fats, and showing signs of dehydration. On the positive side, there were no indications of Lyme disease, parasites, mold, or leaky gut in my blood. I was grateful for this visual confirmation of the healing progress I had made over the years.  Yet, I was puzzled by the dehydration since I was drinking plenty of water every day.

One indicator of dehydration in Live Blood Analysis is the tendency for red blood cells to stick together rather than float independently.

My practitioner suggested that I begin drinking Structured Water.

I purchased a simple device that resembles a funnel. As water passes through it, the flow is directed over, under, and around small stones, simulating the movement of water through a natural stream. The theory is that the movement helps restore water to a more natural state.

I exclusively drank Structured Water for two weeks, and we looked at my blood again.

This time, there were no signs of dehydration. My red blood cells were floating independently, allowing their entire surface areas to interact with oxygen, nutrients, and waste products.

This was a quick and measurable shift.  Wow.

I continued drinking structured water, paying attention to any changes in how I felt. While the funnel was easy to use, I found it too easy to bypass. I wanted a more seamless solution.

After further research, I purchased an under-the-sink structured water device that attaches directly to the cold-water line. Installation was simple. This device is made of copper and quartz crystals, which I appreciate as natural and health-supporting materials.

A month later, I noticed several physical changes:

  • I forget to drink the large quantities of water I previously consumed.

  • I no longer wake up thirsty.

  • I stopped getting up during the night to drink water and use the bathroom.

  • My sleep feels deeper and more restful.

I've started giving structured water to my pets and plants.

Even my dog seems to enjoy the Structured Water.  He has always preferred drinking water from outdoor dog bowls, rather than the dog bowl inside the house. Since installing the structured water device, he seems equally happy drinking either.

How do we structure water?

There are many approaches used to structure water, including:

  • Eating water-rich fruits such as watermelon, peaches, and oranges, which naturally contain structured water

  • Drinking water from natural springs, glacier melt, or mountain streams

  • Exposing water to sunlight or moonlight

  • Using water bottles with built-in vortexing or magnetic systems

  • Using water carafes designed to swirl and structure water

  • Running water through portable funnel-style structuring devices

  • Installing an under-the-sink structuring system

  • Installing a whole-house structuring system at the main water intake

  • Using garden hose attachments designed to structure irrigation water

And there are many more.

The brands that have been recommended to me and I have tried out are:  Mayu, Natural Action and Wellness Enterprise.  I think you would be happy with any of these.

I plan to continue monitoring my health and hydration as I experiment with Structured Water. My hope is that Structured Water will lighten the load for my body, and free up internal resources to process toxins, pathogens, and inflammation.

If you've experimented with Structured Water, I'd love to hear what you've noticed.
